Common Questions about joining

To be eligible for the SDHBA health plan, the business must:
Engage in manual labor associated with the construction or remodeling of residential properties or developments.
Be domiciled in South Dakota and have at least one (1) full-time employee.
In good standing with the South Dakota Home Builders Association as defined in the Employer Participation Agreement.
Participate in this plan for a minimum of three years.

Businesses must participate in this plan for a minimum of three years. Exiting the plan before this time will result in a penalty and waiting period for re-entry.

Eligible businesses can start a policy any time of year, with all policies taking effect on the first of the month. To meet your desired start date, paperwork must be submitted by the first of the preceding month.

The SDHBA health plan allows businesses to offer 1-3 plans regardless of the number of enrolled employees.

Yes. The SDHBA health plan requires the employer to offer this benefit to all eligible employees as defined in the Participation Agreement.

All newly hired employees must satisfy a waiting period of 60 days. Participating businesses are not allowed to have their own new hire waiting period.

No. This is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network that provides the broadest provider access in the market with an extensive statewide network and a national network.

These businesses are still eligible to join the SDHBA health plan. They can work with the agent assigned to members-at-large.
